Now that you have learned a little more about the “G” (Giulia) in G&N, I thought I would share a bit more about myself, the “N” (Nora), as well - also known as “the mom”.
Unlike the planning period we had during Giulia’s engagement period, my own wedding planning was almost non-existent. When my live-in partner (now husband) said that we should get married, he insisted that we have a short engagement, a very short 3 week engagement. Needless to say, this left me flabbergasted and lost.
At the time, my mother was not living in this country, so I wasn’t able to go to her for help with planning. Like Giulia, I, too, did not know where to begin. I had hardly any time to plan for the wedding, and invite our friends and family to witness our marriage and celebrate with us. Thankfully, one of my closest friends stepped in and offered to help, as she had experience putting together both large and small scale corporate events. Given the time crunch and how lost I was, I did not hesitate to accept and I let her take over the planning in total. She asked a friend of hers to host the reception in her backyard on a lake, she pitched a tent, found a caterer, ordered a cake, and all we had to do was provide the music. We showed up with a boombox fully stocked with our favorite music, and that was all we needed to celebrate and dance the night away.
Fast forward to today. My husband and I have been married for 40 years, with nothing but fond, happy memories of our wedding day. Because of how much the help of my friend created such a happy, stress-free engagement period for me, managing all the details so that I would not have to, I have since willingly jumped in to help other friends and relatives plan their weddings when their mothers were not available. Thankfully, Giulia and I have now also had the pleasure of experiencing mother-daughter co-planning together for her own wedding and we have fallen in love with the process in our own ways.
I will be the first to admit that the wedding industry and expectations have changed a lot in the last 40 years - there are so many more options! But since my own wedding, I have helped several other young brides organize and plan such a life changing event and together with my daughter, I want to help to do the same for you. We have made a great team: I know what is needed and how things should flow, she knows how to keep each element organized and charted on a spreadsheet. Giulia and I both had such different visions for our own weddings, so we know that the couple decides the feel and the vibe they want on their wedding day. You decide the budget and the vision, and we will help you attain that vision by offering to shoulder the stress. We will be honest with you, we will put 100% of our abilities at your disposal, and we will always communicate with you to bring your dream to fruition.
